Non-terrestrial network (NTN) bridges the gap left by terrestrial cellular networks, extending connectivity to underserved regions. As one of the technologies to address this need, NTN's unmodified, propriety customization of the standard allows connecting existing LTE and 5G devices to satellites without any modification or software updates in the UEs. Given the UEs are unmodified, the network is responsible for compensating for the effects of the orbit at the center of the cell. The process may drive residual effects due to a non-perfect compensation, which could translate into Doppler, delay, and power profiles. Emulating these scenarios in the Lab to help find the point where UE's performance starts getting compromised is an enormous challenge. Engineers need a solution to create the NTN unmodified, model these impairments, and enable KPI measurements. 

 

 

The Keysight NTN Unmodified test solution enables the test in the Lab under different conditions. It helps find where UE performance starts getting compromised, which allows the modeling of these impairments and enables KPI measurements. The UXM 5G Wireless Test Platform emulates the modified LTE base station, handles, and compensates for the effects of delay and Doppler. The PROPSIM Channel Emulator emulates the propagation conditions, including the LEO satellites' rapidly changing Doppler and delay characteristics.
