Solutions for Testing the DigRF Interface

In an effort to allow for connectivity of standard components, today’s cellular chipset providers have been standardizing mobile handset interfaces. What began with power, computer (USB) and memory interfaces is now extending to display and chipto-chip interfaces thanks to the efforts of the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) Alliance. This organization is driving standardization of such interfaces to facilitate interoperability between components in mobile devices much like those that currently exist in the computer industry. One such interface undergoing standardization is the basebandto-RF-IC interface that exists in most mobile handsets today. DigRF is a high-speed digital standard that describes a digital interface between baseband and RF IC chipsets. The latest version of the standard, v4, speciies a high-speed serial connection with embedded clock and control. While the DigRF interface is a key enabling technology for the increased data speeds in new WiMAX™ and LTE designs, it presents designers and integrators with a host of development and testing challenges.
