The Peak Power Meter Test Adaptor (PPMTA) is an instrument specifically designed to test peak power meters. It is capable of applying voltages, presented at its input, to the power meter with the same signal conditioning as the meter would expect from a peak power sensor. The use of the PPMTA is a convenience as it allows rudimentary checks of the signal path to be carried out as if the input signal was RF power because the meter treats it as if it were a sensor and scales any input voltage to Watts or dBm. The role of the PPMTA in the measurement is to simply apply the appropriate signal conditioning to the voltage supplied by the voltage source. A peak power sensor has a pair of detector diodes that present a differential voltage, related to the applied RF power, to a differential amplifier, which in turn drives a differential voltage to the meter input. The PPMTA has an XLR connector in place of the diode pair and thus allows a differential voltage from an external source to be applied to the power meter.
