Switched-mode power supply (SMPS) design is rapidly evolving with the emergence of wide bandgap semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power devices. New advancement in SMPS design will result in greater power efficiency, increased power density, smaller size, and lower cost in the long run. Higher switching speeds along with the layout of a printed circuit board becomes a source of electromagnetic interference (EMI). This is a design challenge that frustrates many power electronics designers. To overcome this challenge, the designer must be able to identify potential EMI problems in simulation. Until now, this type of simulation requires expertise in electromagnetics.
