Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) encompass all satellite navigation systems that allow users to determine their location based on information from satellites. It includes the fully operational Global Positioning System (GPS), which is run by the United States, and GLONASS run by Russia, as well as, the European Union’s Galileo system and China’s Compass/Beidou2 system which are still being deployed. Growth in the GNSS market is being driven by a range of factors including the increase in location-based services in smart phones and tablets, in-car navigation systems, GPS in consumer devices (e.g., digital cameras and sports watches), and tracking applications. As a result of these drivers, the GNSS market is expected to grow at 10 to 20 percent over the next few years.
