After beginning with programming-based solutions for microwave circuit design and then cycling to GUIbased EDA software, microwave circuit designers need to build custom programming-based wrappers to incorporate advanced optimizations, automation, AI, and ML techniques into their circuit designs. Examples have been provided of how modern simulators facilitate “wrapping” user optimization code with traditional EDA circuit design software capabilities. Readers are encouraged to use these capabilities to integrate their own optimization and automation algorithms to take advantage of the performance increases allowed by the programmatic interfaces. The integration of custom optimization methods with modern design software is a significant step in automating microwave circuit design and in allowing AI and ML to be applied in improving these designs.
