Validation of Achieving 200 Gb/s Signaling per Electrical Lane Over 1 meter of Passive Twinaxial Copper Cable

The IEEE P802.3df Task Group is developing physical layer (PHY) specifications for operating speeds of 200 Gb/s, 400 Gb/s, 800 Gb/s, and 1.6 Tb/s based on 200 Gb/s signaling per electrical lane. The IEEE 802.3 PHY specifications contain the transmission medium as well as the mechanical and electrical interfaces between the transmission medium. The Task Force objectives include supporting operation over single-mode fiber up to at least 500 m and 2 km, and supporting operation over twin-axial copper cables with lengths up to at least 1m; for single-lane (200 Gb/s), two-lane (400 Gb/s), four-lane (800 Gb/s), and eight-lane (1.6 Tb/s).
