Photonic Test Automation with Digital Learning Suite Application Note

The Keysight SR101EDUA Digital Learning Suite (DLS) software includes powerful test capabilities to enable remote and collaborative learning in a hybrid lab environment. In this application note, we highlight the integration of the Keysight N77xxC optical instruments into DLS for photonics teaching labs. Specific capabilities reviewed include accessing remote web interfaces for N77xxC instruments and test automation using programming commands along with DLS instrument plugins.

 

The SR101EDUA DLS software has a built-in gateway that simplifies access to the N77xxC instrument web interfaces for onsite and remote users. Users can now remotely access the N77xxC photonics platform web server directly through a browser without any additional software installation. Test capabilities accessible via the web server include instrument information, a soft front panel for instrument control, save/recall instrument states, screenshots of the instrument, and send/query instrument programming commands.

 

The Test Automation tool can also be used for multi-device and real-time analysis, depending on the testing needs. By incorporating test automation into the curriculum, students can gain a deeper understanding of how real-world systems interact, as well as learn about data collection and analysis, and other performance improvement techniques. The Test Automation tool introduces students to Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI) for instrument control. Each instrument has a unique command set which are defined in the programming guide.
