The convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 6G technology opens the way for a new era of communication systems, promising unprecedented advancements in connectivity, efficiency, and intelligence. This application note explores the critical junctures at which AI intersects with 6G, detailing the transformative potential and inherent challenges of this integration.

 

We investigate the concept of the AI-Native Air Interface (AI-AI), highlighting its benefits in enhancing network performance and the challenges that must be overcome for its successful implementation. Next, we examine why testing wireless components with integrated AI is fundamentally different from traditional non-AI components, highlighting key approaches such as Hardware-in-the-Loop testing, which allows real-time interaction between physical hardware and simulated environments, and Black Box testing, which evaluates system performance based on inputs and outputs without considering internal workings.

 

Furthermore, we explore various use cases where AI can be applied in 6G communications, from channel estimation and prediction to network planning and optimization. Additionally, the application note presents innovative solutions for validating 6G AI-based models and the 6G AI Neural Receiver, aimed at optimizing signal processing and improving communication quality.
