It has long been recognized that personal computers (PCs) need to be simpler and easier to use without sacrificing connectivity or expandability. The Universal Serial Bus (USB) was originally developed in 1995 as a low-cost external-expansion bus that makes adding peripherals to a PC as easy as hooking up a telephone to a wall jack.
