High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is the digital video interface for consumer electronics applications. HDMI 2.1x, developed by the HDMI Forum’s Technical Working Group, is backward compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specification and significantly increases transmission bandwidths up to 48 Gbps.

Since the transmission rate of HDMI 2.1x fixed rate link (FRL) is double that of HDMI 2.1x TMDS, interoperability issues caused by signal quality distortions introduce new technical requirements for compliance testing of HDMI 2.1x sink and source devices.

The Keysight-certified HDMI 2.1x test solution covers all physical-layer compliance tests, including source, cable, sink, and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC).

This application note provides an overview of HDMI 2.1x, highlights test challenges, and describes Keysight HDMI test solutions. This includes the hardware setup of the Keysight HDMI compliance test solutions and the user interface of D9021HDMC, N5991HP1x, and N5991HE1x test automation software.
