Adding complex modulation schemes to military systems boosts scalability, security, and data rates
Global military units face unique and often difficult communications challenges. International conflicts put a strain on communications capabilities. In rural or conflict areas, it is a challenge to ensure transmission due to the lack of infrastructure. Yet mission critical success depends on a common operational image of the situation based on shared information, images, maps, and more. At the same time, armed forces must respond to threats in a timely, organized fashion. These aspects demand the secure, reliable, and timely communication of critical information. As military communications (MilCom) evolve from analog to digital technologies, tactics rely increasingly on modulation formats for security and reliability. Military agencies also use digital modulation to maximize finite spectrum, squeezing more users into the same or less spectrum while enabling higher data rates.
