The high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) is used to transfer audio and video data between satellite receivers, DVD players and TV’s, providing better quality, higher screen resolution and improved color depths. HDMI is maintained by the HDMI consortium and is widely implemented in all new equipment. To prove compliance to the HDMI standards established by the consortium requires that you perform a comprehensive range of transmitter, receiver, repeater and cable tests.

A new option from BitifEye extends the company’s range of compliance test solutions to provide automated HDMI cable testing. The new HDMI cable test solution comprises a Keysight E5071C ENA network analyzer with TDR option and ECal module, an optional BitifEye switch, and the BitifEye ValiFrame* test automation software. The HDMI cable-under-test is connected to the switch by two access adaptor test fixtures.

ValiFrame is a modular, open software platform, providing automated, high quality compliance measurements for high speed digital interfaces including PCI Express®, USB, HDMI and MIPITM.

HDMI Cable Testing

The new HDMI cable test software option extends the capabilities of BitifEye’s compliance test solutions in order to complement its HDMI transmitter and receiver testing. The cable test automation software is based on the standard ValiFrame user interface allowing device configuration, calibration and test procedures to be easily selected.

Compliance Mode automatically selects the test parameters required for measurements on the cable including intra-pair skew, far-end crosstalk, attenuation/phase and differential impedance. In Expert Mode, the test parameters can be modified freely within the ranges of the test equipment.

As part of the calibration of the full HDMI cable test station, the characteristics of the switch are measured for de-embedding. De-embedding moves the measurement plane from the instrument connectors to the switch connectors to compensate for its presence in the signal path.
