Protect yourself, the equipment, and your device-under-test (DUT)
- Read the warnings and cautions in the product manuals. Familiarize yourself with the functions you will be using. Many instruments enable you to access help by pushing and holding a front-panel button.
- Configure your instrument according to your local power supply before plugging into the receptacle because instruments can support different supply voltages.
- Use anti-static mats and storage bags as appropriate.
- Inspect cables and connectors for wear and damage, and only use ones that are in good physical condition. Use care in routing cables and making connections.
- Clear your workspace of clutter, keep food and drinks away, and ensure that there is adequate space around the instruments to allow for sufficient airflow.
- Use front-panel self-test or standard commands for programmable instruments (SCPI) self-tests (often *TST? or TEST:ALL?).
