Indentation Hardness and Elastic Modulus via Express Test

The Express Test option increases the productivity of a G200 NanoIndenter more than a hundred fold. Instrument time is no longer the limiting factor in research and development. The purpose of this note is to explain the Express Test option and demonstrate its performance on various materials.

 

The Keysight Technologies, Inc. Express Test option for G200 NanoIndenters implements traditional indentation testing1 in a revolutionary way in order to achieve unprecedented testing speeds. Express Test performs one complete indentation cycle per second, including approach, contact detection, load, unload, and movement to the next indentation site. One hundred indentations can be performed at one hundred different sites in less than 100 seconds. The benefits which follow from this capability are myriad, but the most obvious are rapid calibration of indenter area function and statistically robust measurement of hardness and Young’s modulus in mere minutes. Because testing is so fast, thermal drift is inconsequential. In summary, the Express Test option increases the productivity of a G200 NanoIndenter more than a hundred fold.
